Excursions & Activities
Recovery at Holina is more than therapy. Every week we build structured recreation into the programme: a Saturday off-site excursion, evening social activities most weeknights, and therapeutic recreation on Sundays — all on and around our private peninsula on Koh Phangan. These outings are a planned part of treatment, not an added extra.

What Role Do Excursions Play in Recovery?
Addiction narrows life down. Part of recovery is learning, often for the first time in years, that enjoyment, connection, and rest are possible without a substance. That is what excursions and activities are for at Holina Rehab — they are woven into the weekly structure alongside clinical work, not tacked on as tourism.
Getting out onto the island, moving the body, and spending relaxed time with peers all support the same goal as the therapy room: helping people re-engage with the world and with each other. It is a deliberate, supervised part of the Dual Treatment programme, and it is included in the all-inclusive fee.
A Saturday off-site excursion and a Sunday wisdom group close out each week, with a rotating evening social activity most weeknights — a rhythm that gives the week shape and something to look forward to.
What Does a Typical Week Look Like?
Clinical sessions anchor the weekdays, while evenings and weekends bring social time, recreation, and a weekly trip off site. The exact activities rotate week to week; the structure below stays consistent.
Weeknight Social Slot
Most weeknights (7:30–9:00pm) hold a rotating social activity — movie night, a shopping trip, a quick group game, karaoke, or a singing-bowl session.
Saturdays
The day is given over to an off-site excursion. The evening brings a BBQ dinner followed by a drumming circle back at the centre.
Sundays
A wisdom group and a therapeutic activity — a hike, badminton, soccer, or Muay Thai — sit alongside free time to rest and reset before the new week.
This is the shape of a standard week; specific outings and activities vary. Clinical care always takes priority, and the schedule is adjusted around each client’s stage of treatment.
Movement, Fitness & Wellness

A Body-Based Part of Recovery
On site, clients have access to a well-equipped gym, sauna, ice bath, and massage huts, alongside several yoga shalas used for daily practice. Daily yoga, swimming, and gym access are complemented by weekly ice bath, sauna, and breathwork sessions.
Sunday’s therapeutic activity adds a more active option each week — a hike into the hills, a game of badminton or soccer, or a Muay Thai session — so movement stays a regular, enjoyable part of the programme rather than a chore.
Getting Out Onto Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan is reachable only by boat, with no bridge to the Thai mainland — a natural distance from old routines that is part of why the island suits recovery. Organised trips around the island include hikes to waterfalls and through the jungle mountains, giving clients a change of scenery within a structured day.
Beyond the fixed weekly structure, guests often remember the excursions most warmly. One resident, Kimberly, described her time with us in her own words:
“Each week, we took trips to incredible places, like the elephant sanctuary, where I got to witness the beauty of these gentle giants up close, and a different breathtaking beach every weekend. A much needed reminder of the beauty in the world. […] I can’t forget that excursions with AK were always a fun time. He always took such good care of us and made sure we had fun. […] We supported each other through the hard days, celebrated the small wins, and bonded over activities like kayaking at the beach or hanging out at the pool.”
Kimberly — Holina Rehab guest, March 2025This is one guest’s personal account of her stay. Specific destinations such as the elephant sanctuary and particular beaches reflect her own experience and are not a fixed or guaranteed weekly itinerary — the consistent structure is the weekly Saturday excursion, evening social activities, and Sunday recreation described above. Excursions are chosen and adapted by our team around the season, the group, and each client’s stage of treatment.
Weekly Rituals That Bring the Group Together
Alongside the excursions, a set of regular rituals gives the week its texture and builds the sense of community that so many clients say stays with them. Friday sunset dinners look back on the week just passed. Art Therapy sessions run with Umporn Jiaranai, founder of the Art Issue school, and Inner Walk walking-meditation sessions were introduced by Monk Prah Olarn, known locally as the “Unlimited Smiling Monk,” to build presence into daily life.
Saturday evenings bring a BBQ dinner and a drumming circle, and singing-bowl sound sessions feature among the rotating weeknight activities — gentle, shared experiences that ask nothing of anyone except to be present. Are Excursions Included in the Programme Cost?
Yes. Holina runs one all-inclusive residential programme — 30, 60, or 90 days — with everything included and nothing billed separately. Excursions, evening activities, fitness, and on-site wellness are all part of the fee, so there is no add-on cost to take part.

Excursions & Activities: Frequently Asked Questions
Are excursions and activities included in the programme cost?
Yes. Holina runs one all-inclusive residential programme with everything included and nothing billed separately. Excursions, evening social activities, fitness, and on-site wellness sessions are all part of the fee, so there is no extra cost to take part.
How often do clients go on off-site excursions?
A dedicated off-site excursion runs each Saturday. Alongside it, there is a rotating social activity most weeknights and therapeutic recreation on Sundays, so there is something built into the week beyond clinical sessions on a regular basis.
What kinds of evening social activities are there?
The weeknight social slot (around 7:30–9:00pm) rotates through options such as movie nights, a shopping trip, quick group games, karaoke, and singing-bowl sessions. Saturday evenings bring a BBQ dinner followed by a drumming circle.
Are the activities supervised?
Yes. Off-site excursions and activities are accompanied by Holina staff and sit within the structured daily programme. They are planned and adapted around the group and each client’s stage of treatment, with clinical care always taking priority.
Do I need to be physically fit to take part?
No. Activities range from gentle and restful — singing bowls, movie nights, beach and pool time — to more active options such as hikes, badminton, soccer, and Muay Thai. Clients take part at a level that suits them, and Sundays include free time to rest.
What makes excursions on Koh Phangan different?
Koh Phangan is reachable only by boat, with no bridge to the mainland, which gives it a natural distance from old routines. Organised trips around the island include hikes to waterfalls and through the jungle mountains, alongside time on the beaches and coast of the Gulf of Thailand.
